LETTER TO HENRY KACHAJE

By Bryson Jumbe

Dear Sir,

First, I would like to thank you for your informative, educative and mind probing posts on Facebook.

It's great to note that, as incumbent president, you did not seek for second term of office during Ecama's (Economic Association of Malawi) elections. I'm far more impressed by the reasons you gave to one of the country's paper that, 'you did your part and wanted others with fresh ideas to come in.'

In a world, and more precisely a continent, of greed and self-centred culture, it's amazing to have people of integrity and humility like yourself. It is rare for people in leadership positions to willingly give other able people a chance to take over and prove their worth.

What you did is a valuable lesson, unfortunately, not many will humble themselves and learn. Some, even after the recent events in Zimbabwe, will not change and loosen their grip on power unnecessarily.

I wish you could provide similar inspiration to our African leaders in sports administration, politics, churches and all other established institutions. It is my hope that all those in positions of leadership and power learn, for there is honour in selflessness and humility. At least, you're our living proof after Mandela and 'a few' others.

Thank you and stay blessed.

Respectfully yours,

BJ
