Meet Diana Satha, Malawian Comedian
DS: Diana Hannah-Dacious Satha. I'm 30 yrs old, Malawian. I'm passionate about the arts. I come from Sankhani vge, T/A Njewa, Lilongwe. The last born in a family of seven. My parents were very strict, they believed in spoiling the child and sparing the rod.
FMM: And why did you decide to become a comedian?
DS: Being a comedian is an easy way out for me, its a means to escape reality and so, I created my own world. Its a way to vent out without physically harming anyone.
FMM: Do you write your own routines?
DS: Yes, I write my own routines.
FMM: Where do you get your material?
DS: Social media, everyday people, TV etc.
FMM: What was the best joke you cracked?
DS: I don't have a specific joke that I like but I would say the 'Cape Town' joke is pretty awesome...I went to Cape Town looking for greener pastures but I found a small bathroom I could not fit in so instead of doing 'number one and two' properly, I did number three - I spoilt myself!
FMM: Why did you choose that joke?
DS: I chose this joke because everyone has a story to tell when they go the bathroom and I thought mine was sad and funny at the same time.
FMM: What happens if people don’t laugh?
DS: I move on to the next joke.
FMM: What makes your stand-up comedy unique and different from other comedians?
DS: I tell it like it is. I don't sugar-coat my jokes.
FMM: Do you like telling jokes that may offend people?
DS: No, I'm a very sensitive person. I wouldn't want to offend anyone.
FMM: And what’s the worst response you have received from a joke? What happened?
DS: I am yet to receive bad responses, it's either people like me or they are scared to approach me, lol.
FMM: Do you make a living out of this?
DS: Yes and no. Sometimes, it puts bread on the table and sometimes it brings porridge with no sugar.
FMM: How can you describe reception of comedy by Malawian fans?
DS: The reception is fair, not that great but we're getting there slowly.
FMM: What was your happiest and saddest moment in your comedy career?
DS: My happiest moment would be when I met Anne Kansiime for the very first time. Not because she's an international celebrity, no, but she's down-to-earth.
My saddest moments are when I see a bunch of strangers in the audience and none of my so-called friends show up to support me.
FMM: Thanks for this interview- it’s been a great pleasure and learning experience. Do you have anything you’d like to say before you “close shop?
DS: Yes, sure. Comedy, like any other art form needs to be appreciated.

How to Develop a Strong Business Model & Make Money from Your Ideas
"Starting & Running a Business Demystified"
We believe you enrol in the course because you have a strong conviction that owning your business is the ultimate solution to your financial independence.
Module 1: Business Idea Generation
Introduction
First, let's define the term 'business'.
A business is an activity undertaken with the aim of making profit. A business idea is a short and precise definition of the basic operations of an intended business. A good business normally starts with a good business idea.
Therefore, before one starts a business, he needs to have a clear idea of the sort of business to run. One would benefit from different sources to get a business idea. It is a detailed description of what the identified business will do and how it will operate.
Lesson 1: A Step-by-Step Procedure of Generating Business Ideas
So, you're ready to start your own business? ( The ideas in this course could also be used by those who already run businesses)
Let's dive in!
First, we need to define some terms crucial for this course: business idea, business, and entrepreneur.
Definitions:
* A business is an activity undertaken by a person with the aim of making profit
* A business idea is a short and precise definition of the basic operation of an intended business
* An entrepreneur is a person doing business
Now let's look at qualities of an entrepreneur.
Generally, an entrepreneur has the following qualities:
*Sound aim to do business
*Committed
*Innovative
But then why do people go into business?
These could be some of the reasons:
*To earn an income
*To find a means of self-employment
*To commercialise their special hobbies, knowledge, and skills
*To gain and enjoy special status in society
Test Questions
A successful business meets the needs of targeted customers. It gives people what they need or want.
A business idea should therefore answer the following four key questions:
*What is the product or service that your business is going to sell?
*Who will the business sell its products or offer its services to?
*How will your business sell its products or services?
*Which need will your business fulfill for the customers?
A business idea should be based on the known products, services or what one is good at. They must be products or services that people are willing to pay for. Analysing various business ideas will help one focus on the type of business that would bring in returns and who the business will sell its products or offer its services to.
Customers are an essential part of any business. It is important to be clear about the type of customers one intends to sell products and services to.
The key question is: Will the products and services be sold to a specific type of customer or everyone in an area?
There must be enough people who are able to and willing to pay for the products and services otherwise the business will not make a profit.
If the plan is to open a shop, one can concentrate on the customers in the locality. But a manufacturer or service operator can sell in many different ways. A manufacturer can, for example, sell either directly to customers or retailers.
Always ask yourself: Which needs will my business fulfil for customers?
A business idea should always have the customers and the customer's needs in mind. It is important to find out what future customers want when working out a business idea.
Remember: good business ideas come from different sources and depend on various factors like local resources, local needs, local activities, interests and hobbies.
Take away message:
Starting a business is NOT an easy task. It takes a lot of hard work and planning.
A good business idea is the genesis of a successful business!!
