The African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) says the introduction of a system of rice intensification (SRI) among farmers in Machinga has helped to increase production of the crop in the district. SRI is a set of simple ideas and principles that help produce more productive rice plants through transplanting of young seedlings raised in an unflooded nursery and transplanting them in shallow soils with one seed of rice per planting station.
